Sarma Malins is one busy lady. She’s a stylist, runs her own non-profit organization, has a promotions company and above all, is a mom!
Photoboost is Sarma’s non-profit organization. Through workshops and photo shoots, she works with wayward teen girls from the Children’s Aid Society with self-esteem building. Working alongside a team consisting of herself, another stylist and photographer, they help girls direct and feature in their own photo shoot, during which, Sarma and her team converse and explain what it is they do in their respective trades to help the girls understand that there is more to life than street activity.
Sarma then shared with us the diversity she’s seen in Toronto, specifically as mom in the LGBT community raising her son with her partner. The abundance in diversity has been great exposure on her son as it’s common for him to see other same-sex parents. She shares with us how raising her son irrespective of being in the LGBT community has been relatively challenge-free, explaining that her confidence and heavy involvement in her son’s life (volunteering at his school) is most likely the reason she’s been able to maintain and live a great life.
