Can you feel it? The shift in the seasons. The kids are back at school, the days are getting a little bit shorter and the leaves are thinking about changing colours. Right now is the perfect time to pull out your calendar and make some plans for the fall. There are plenty of fun family friendly things to do in Toronto this fall.

Kid-friendly Toronto fall activities!

Visit the Royal

Nov 2-11, 2018

If summer is all about the Canadian National Exhibition then autumn is all about the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. The Royal brings the farm to the big city and it is an amazing way to spend the day with kids. Where else can you get up close with horses, cows, goats, sheep and chickens…in downtown Toronto? Be sure to explore all the incredibly gigantic vegetables, you won’t believe how tall a sunflower can grow. While I love all the animals at the Royal, I also love learning about how our food makes it from the farm to our table.

Go apple picking

Okay, for this one you are going to have to head outside of the city. That’s okay! Nothing like a little road trip. There are plenty of farms where families can pick their own apples, pears and even pumpkins. Check out the Pick Your Own site to find a location near to you. If a road trip isn’t what you are looking for, then head to your local farmers’ market.

Word on the Street

Sept 23, 2018

Be sure to hit the Children’s Activity Tent at the Word on the Street festival this fall. Kids (and parents) can craft, cartoon, read and be read to (from 10-5pm!) at this fabulous literary celebration. Be prepared to do some shopping. Canada’s top children’s book publishers will be on hand, it’s the perfect spot to pick up the latest and greatest books for kids.

Enjoy the colours

There is nothing quite like autumn in Canada. We are so fortunate to experience the glorious colours of fall foliage. There are plenty of spots to head to enjoy a kid-friendly Toronto hike through the trees. Take a ferry over to the Toronto Islands, ride the TTC over to High Park or Evergreen Brickworks, or make the trip to Rouge Park.

Get artsy at Nuit Blanche

Sept 29, 2018

Remember pulling an all-nighter before a big exam in University? Well, Nuit Blanche is an opportunity to pull an all-nighter for a much better reason…art. Bundle up the kids and wander the streets from sunset to sunrise. Okay, maybe the kids won’t make it all night, but you can put in a couple of hours before bedtime. Nuit Blanche will have you looking at the city in an entirely new light.
