The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) AKA The Ex is Toronto tradition dating back over 135 years. When the CNE arrives we know that summer has peaked and school is just around the corner making it the ideal place to celebrate the last blast of summer. There are so many things to do when you visit. Here are ten!
What to do in Toronto: Kid-Friendly Fun at the CNE
Kiddie Rides
Attending the CNE with small children? The Kiddie Midway features 30 wonderful and whimsical rides especially for the super littles like the Berry Go Round, the Lollipop Swing, the Dizzy Dragon and the Wacky Worm Coaster. Oh to be young again!
Super Dogs and feline friends
Fan fave, The President’s Choice
SuperDogs
are celebrating their 40th birthday with a new show called Happy Barkday. Then keep the party going AFTER the show by meeting the SuperDogs at the hugely popular Pat N’ Chat
! Cats more your thing? Head to Café Soleil for the 47th Annual Cat Show and check out the 125 cats from across Ontario. Meow!
Mzansi Youth Choir
In collaboration with Stratford Summer Music, the South African Mzansi Youth Choir returns to the CNE with its exciting performance that features a twist on traditional South African music. Established in 2003, the choir was created as a platform for talented, underprivileged young adults to hone their skills and perform around the world.
The Children’s Farm
The Farm is a mainstay of the Ex with a petting zoo and loads of farm animals that will give your city kids a little taste of the country.
Kid’s World
You could spend all day here! There’s a Kids Korner where they can practice working in an airport, a grocery store, a gas station and a veterinary clinic, performances from Dufflebag Theatre, a magician, pizza-making, toddler town and Peppa Pig fans can meet the famed British swine every day at the Kids’ World Stage!
The midway after the sun sets
Head to the CNE in the late afternoon after the heat of the day has cooled down, the breeze is streaming in from the lake. When the sun sets the Midway comes to life. The sounds, smells and sights of the midway are magically transformed when all the lights switch on. For a child, it’s like nothing they have ever experienced before.
Legends of the Silk Road Come to Light
This exhibit on the ancient route that transported rare and valuable goods via caravan between Asia and Europe. 50 artists created 17 illuminated larger-than-life synthetic silk lanterns that stand stories-high in stature and create a luminous kaleidoscope of colour.
Aquarama
This crowd pleaser is fun for everyone! CNE Aquarama returns to the waterfront with a Las Vegas themed wedding celebration complete with thrills, chills and spills!
Crazy food
From corn dogs, pancake bacon tacos and ribs galore to crazy cones and donuts, you can satisfy your most gluttonous self at the Ex!
Sky Ride
For a bird’s eye view of the CNE be sure to take a ride on the Sky Ride. The ride was so popular with families last year that they have added additional cars.
The list of things to see and do at the CNE is endless. From concerts, classic big kid rides like the Zipper, cooking shows and parades. It is hard to believe that so much can be packed in to two short weeks.
