The freezing Toronto temps just keep on giving (and taking … our breath away) so instead of zoning out in front of YouTube, take the kids on a skating expedition to Etobicoke’s Colonel Sam Smith Park, for a twirl around their superb outdoor skating trail
Years before the hip urban Bentway Trail opened, this lovely 250 metre figure-eight trail burst on the scene in 2010 in a beautiful natural location with a view of the lake.
The trail is kept super smooth with regular Zamboni attention, and there’s an open area connected to the trail that acts as a learn-to-skate spot for newbies.
There are spacious indoor change room with benches and washrooms but no skate rentals or lockers. Rink guards are on-hand during busy times; there’s lighting for night skating (think romantic moonlit skate!) and a sound system for motivating tunes.
The outdoor Colonel Sam Smith Skating Trail is a true gem and super family friendly. So lace up and get skating before the trees start to bloom (it won’t be long – promise).
