It’s officially time to celebrate the magic of the holiday season! November 16th marks the beginning of one of Toronto’s favourite events: The Toronto Christmas Market in the historic Distillery District. With over 450 free performances, a ferris wheel and carousel, Santa (and even St Nick on horseback!), chocolate galore, a beer garden, gorgeous light displays, and dazzling photo ops, there’s no shortage of things to see and do during this 8th annual event.
What to do in Toronto: Toronto Christmas Market
Music: Listen, make requests and/or participate in Christmas carols daily. Each night the Candy Cane Carolers fill the main stage with all the holiday favourites. And for the kids, the daily interactive stage show ‘Santa’s Elves Sing-Along’ is sure to get everyone in the mood! On opening night (Nov 16), the Toronto Children’s Chorus will wow visitors with their award-winning pipes. Over the span of the market, there will be over 450 free performances on the main stage including award-winning singers, brass bands, cultural dancers, and carolers.
Santa! On December 5th at 6:00 pm St. Nicholas arrives on his white horse in the Dutch tradition. What a spectacle! There’s also Santa’s House where you can get your classic family pics, and ASL evening, and if you want Fido included, Tuesday is the day for Paws with Claus. And did we mention a carousel and ferris wheel?
Insta-lights: The brick background and historical site is lit up like, well, a Christmas tree. The romantic and festive site is full of amazing Instagrammable spots, so charge up your iPhone, you are going to want to take plenty of photos!
Shopping: The Christmas Market is the perfect spot to shop for everyone on your holiday list. The market brings Ontario’s best — and most unique — craftspeople, artists and artisans, together with an international roster of world-class vendors. Pick up something one of a kind at the market.
Christmas Trees: There is something magical about a beautifully lit Christmas tree. Be amazed by the majestic 52-foot white spruce featured at this year’s Market is donated by Forests Ontario and Ontario Wood. Bring home your own Ontario-grown Christmas trees and wreaths at this year’s market. For ever tree purchased, a new one will be planted and you will receive one free entry ticket into the Toronto Christmas Market!
