One of the most anticipated events of the year is on this weekend (May 27 & 28).  In honour of Canada’s 150th birthday, Doors Open Toronto is opening up 150 (yes, you read that right) architecturally, historically, culturally and socially significant buildings across the city for people to wander through. They’ve got churches, cultural centres, homes, studios and more. If you’re really keen, sign up for one of their fascinating walking tours.

The curatorial theme Fifteen Decades of Canadian Architecture shines light on the evolution of Canadian architecture, with a special focus on Centennial-period buildings and architects from the 1960s.

Some Highlights

City hall is ground zero for the event. Nathan Phillips square will be buzzing with free activities, special programs and rare access to the 27th floor Observation Deck and Council Chambers.

The Noor Cultural Centre

The Centre embodies a spirit of positive social contribution from one cultural group to another through its combination of traditional Japanese and Islamic building traditions. Witness a landmark that embodies Canada’s religious and cultural tolerance.

Marvel at the dazzling interior of the stunning First Nations longhouse!

Anglican Church of St. John the Baptist

Wander into a vibrant and serene space and listen to the soothing sounds of music director Matthew Whitfield throughout the entire weekend.
